i too was sent to this site for a college class. i am white. my family is upper-middle class. i was taught to be proud of my country and its past. How can I be proud of a country where atrocities like this were celebrated? How can I be proud of a country where all people still are not treated as equals 230 years after its constititution claims equality as one of its main goals?

This was a finely produced movie, with a good slideshow-albeit it showed many of the tragic photos of America's torrid Southern past.

I thank the producers of this website and the collector of these photos.

What a strong testament. I applaud you for your efforts.

I pray that this will serve as a strong reminder to our future generation of the importance of respecting the human life.

I agree that these actions were very wrong. I understand that in America (and other places) people still think they were right. They are also wrong. But you must remember that there is no country in this world where every person is treated equally. I do believe that we are trying though, and I am proud of that. I do not always agree with our government. It's just hard to have equality with so many minorities, extremists, racists, and politicians with their own agendas. But like I said, I do believe that we are trying, and I think that is something to be proud of.

It is something to be proud of for those who ARE trying to make the oughtness of the core values stated in our Declaration of Independence, the isness of our nation ... even at this late date.

Many who hide in the legalisms of our Constitution have abandoned the principles clearly set for in the Declaration of Independence where our founders signed below, "And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor."
