| I found after watching this movie that the lynchings are in many ways similer to the Gladiator fights in Rome. Murder and death in the form of entertainment seems to be a constant motif throughout human history. Even now in the days of reality television other people's misery comes in the form of entertainment for us. And it was not too long ago that the murder of a black man provided photo oppurtunities and local gatherings. No matter how petty the crime they still managed to justify the loss of a human life as pennance for the transgression. Why executions arent put on televison is beyond me because it seems that a lot of people would watch a man die, things havent changed all that much since 1906. |
