| It is hard to comment after seeing such acts of hatred. I think of Ida Burnett's statement; "Our American Christians are too busy saving the souls of white Christians from burning in hell-fire to save the lives of black ones from present burning in fires kindled by white Christians." From the text of "The African-American Odyssey," with regards to rape and violence, stated that black men were litterally puting their lives on the line when defending their wives or daughters from the horrific comments aimed at them. When I read about the violence and see these photos, thoughts of horror come to my mind. It is very hard to imagine being a young man walking to church, and in the process, being attacked by a mob, tied up, and be tortured and killed in such a way. On the other side of the fence, it is hard to see the lyncher's faces, and those that stand by and watch, as innocent life is terrified, tortured, and taken away. Lynching and racial violence was being passed onto the next generation, as the adults brought their childrent to these scenes. Seeing such young eyes, witnessing these acts of hatred, to me is evil, barbaric, and unhuman. |
