| It is difficult to comment on such disturbing images. I have seen similar pictures made into postcards at the Holocaust Museum in Melbourne. Nazis proudly displaying dead and tortured Jews. It is a sad testament to what people can make of themselves when they are in a position of power over others. Sadly, I could not bring myself to look at all of the images you have posted, I found them too distressing, but I applaud your decision to create a memorial not only for these individuals, but for the people of America who were, and are still, abused by their own communities. As horrible as it is to see, and as upsetting as it is to think that anyone could make postcards of such moments, I only wish that there were more websites showing the abuses of the past so that we were able to confront them as readily. Perhaps if there were such a graphic depiction of what our indiginous people suffered in Australia, it would be easier for us to see why it can not just be forgotten. That there must be some form of acknowledgement and atonement, some commitment to preventing such things from ever happening again, before there can be any kind of resolution. |
