| I am a single mother of 2 black children. I am white, and so are they, but the world does not see them this way. They are and always will be black men. Seeing these images truely disgusted me. It saddens me to know that my people acted this way, and treated my children's ancestor's is such a vile way. I am aware of the creulty of the past, but also, of the present. My oldest son is 10 and has twice been called a [racial epithet deleted] at school, by white children. The hatred is still alive and children learn what they live. It is a sad fact. My children have the right to ride the bus and attend school without being antagonized, intimidated, and violated. My son is a young man full of character and self respect. He does not let the ignorance and stupidity of others bring him to their level. He is aware that violence is not the answer.(Lucky for those kids.) But, as he is still a child, I am his voice. He will be heard. To really change the world, it takes more than knowing about the past. You must teach the children, all children, self respect and dignity. One day, they will be judges, lawyers, and jurors that run the Justice system. Black America is still being wrongfully judged and convicted. White America is still deciding the fate of all. We must come together as ONE AMERICA! |
