Because it hurts
I will not cry
I know that for my freedom others have died
Knowing that some may never feel my pain
They will never know how one photograph can induce
Feelings of nausea, hatred, pity and disgrace

Because it hurts
I will not hate
My people have suffered too long
We are so hurt that we cant get over it
Like a jaded lover we cant seem to understand
How so much evil can come from man

Because it hurts
I will believe
That with each step I take
One of the fallen will be with me
On this path/road to our destiny

Because it hurts
I will teach my children
I will show them the pictures
I will let them know, that this is what people have sacrificed
So you can live in semi-decency
because we all know the game has never changed you see....

Because it hurts
I will forgive them all
I will unburden my soul with loathing
and free it for love of my people
But only
Because it hurts...

This is the poem that the photographs made me feel....Nothing prewritten. I was taught at an early age about the struggles the people before me had. I ask that all people do the same..If we teach our children that this is unacceptable, then they will think more of themselves and they will not repeat these acts on their own people...
