I was very moved and also horrified by these archival photos of lynchings. I had a question - forgive my ignorance of social history: I noted that the later photos were dated to 1933 or so... I assume that lynchings, as a practice, went on beyond that time for quite some time. Any thoughts as to why there are no later photos? Did this horrible practice become less widely socially acceptable?
Thank you for your thoughts. Also - thank you for sharing these photos. They are important. |
