| What was the intended use of these postcards? Were they sent out as invitations to a lynching, or were they just sold as novelty items? I have never heard of this before. Although the lynchings themselves are disgusting and committed out of hate and pure evil, the post cards have a grotesque quality all of their own. As I looked through them and watched the video I cried and thought of the person who was murdered, their families and the generations of people who lived in fear. I have a better understanding now of: "Why the Caged Bird Sings", she sings in mourning, she sings for her family and her community, she cries out in her faith! |
